I grew up in rural SW Michigan farmlands and still holds those small-town values near and dear. Work hard. Play hard. Live by the golden rule, do the next right thing, help those less fortunate, and use common sense and mind your manners.
Although we moved a lot for my dad’s work, we always ended up back in the same small town. And when I say small, I mean it. To this day it’s about 800 people, everyone knows each other and, back in my day, there were 42 kids in my High School graduating class. After high school, there was talk about going to college, it would be a first for my family, but travel called and I found a way to do it. Have Uncle Sam pay for it. I am a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, but travel wasn’t necessarily in the cards. I joined to travel the world and they sent me 3 hours south to Indiana!
After returning from active duty, actually to the house I grew up in, I was bit by the advertising bug and became a successful salesperson for Yellow Pages, newsprint, and radio advertising. In the mid-90s I purchased a personal computer and got bit by the Internet bug and all the new opportunities it presented. I learned Linux and Networking and built a dial-up ISP. I built custom computers and servers. I worked with brands like Neo Pets, Zimbra (Yahoo), and toward the end of my I.T. career, Google (both the Apps Platform and Business Photos – 360-degree virtual tours in Maps.)
That’s when I picked up a camera. In 2009 my daughter was born and got bitten by the shutter bug taking pictures of her sheer amazingness. In 2018 I became a full-time Headshot and Personal Branding Photographer, a member of The Headshot Crew, and a mentee of (arguably) the best headshot photographer in the world, Peter Hurley. Shabang!
Also in 2009, I read a book called The Go-Giver. It changed my life and the trajectory of it. It resonated so well with me that I reached out to the author, Bob Burg, to express how it impacted me. I’ve been a Go-Giver Coach since 2010, and recently became a Certified Go-Giver Speaker to help spread the word of “A Little Story About a Powerful Business Idea” and help entrepreneurs and sales professionals implement the “5 Stratospheric Laws of Success.”
I’m an avid promoter of Networking and is a member of the Upper Tampa Bay Chamber of Commerce, Past Chair for the Greater Pasco Chamber of Commerce (Chairman of the Board for 2015-2016 Trinity-Odessa Chamber of Commerce), Past Chair of the West Pasco Board of Realtors Education Committee, past member of the Board of Directors of the Pinellas Realtor Organization, a past member of the Board of Directors for Leadership Pasco (Class of 2015), and a past member of the Board of Directors for the Palm Harbor Chamber of Commerce.
I live just north of Tampa, FL now with my amazing wife Robin, two school-age children, Delana – the figure skater, and Micheal – the hockey player, and our rescued Malinois (Belgian Shepherd), Riley. And, here’s something you don’t hear every day: After 38 years off the frozen ponds of the midwest, I’ve taken up playing ice hockey here in Florida. I gotta keep up with the kiddos!
